Mary Janetta "Janet" Plowden Ague



Sumter, SC…Mary Janetta “Janet” Plowden Ague, age 89, beloved wife of the late Donald Edgar Ague, died on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at her residence.

Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late William Robert Plowden and Martha Shuler Plowden. Mrs. Ague was a graduate of Edmunds High School and Winthrop College. She was retired from Sumter School District Seventeen. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Women Educators and was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 23 years. She was an ardent supporter of the Sumter County Library and was a volunteer and supporter of United Ministries of Sumter County. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader. Mrs. Ague especially enjoyed being with her family and was a friend to people of all ages.

Surving are: one son, William Roy Ague and his wife, Sandy; two daughters, Mary Fran Smith and her husband, Phil; and Sharon Lee Cheek and her husband, Stanley; three grandchildren, Steven James Powell and his wife, Marie; Samuel William Ague and Hannah Jayne Ague; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren, Steven Hawkins Powell, James Byars Powell, and Myah Grace Ague; four step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Plowden Connor.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Revs. Joseph James and Angela Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Sumter Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steven Powell, Sam Ague, Sid Connor, David Laban, Joe Laban, Chris Alderman, Donnie Mahoney, Greg Tate, and David Waters.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 1:00-2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at Trinity United Methodist Church and other times at the home.
