Mildred Ard Brown



Sumter, SC… Mildred Ard Carlisle Brown, age 96, widow of William A. Carlisle, Sr., and Vernon L. “Buddy” Brown, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter.

Born in Hemingway, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lewington Leondus Ard and Myrtle Lambert Hodge Ard. She was retired from Sears Roebuck Co. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years and recently joined Summerton Baptist Church. Mildred enjoyed playing cards and loved spending time with her family.

Survivors are: Four children, William A. “Bill” Carlisle, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Pinewood, SC, Brenda C. Eaton and her husband Bill of Lilburn, GA, Robert W. Carlisle, Sr. of Sumter, SC, and Lynn C. Charpentier and her husband Keith of Sumter, SC; Two step-sons, V.L. Brown, Jr. and his wife Jo Ann of Spartanburg, SC, and William H. Brown and his wife Nancy of Easley, SC; Five grandchildren, Teresa Eaton Cooper and her husband David of Suwanee, GA, William A. “Billy” Carlisle, III, and his wife Tammy of Pinewood, SC, Dr. Timothy E. Garrity and his wife Holly of Sumter, SC, Rev. J. Kirkland “Kirk” Carlisle and his wife Kelli of Pinewood, SC, and Tiffany Garrity Davis and her husband Colin of Sumter, SC; and 14 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Leon Ard; Four sisters, Lola Atkinson, Katie Danner, Lilla Belle Caudle and Virginia Ard; and one grandson, Robert Wayne Carlisle, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Billy Carlisle officiating. Interment will follow in Sumter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00-11:00am at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Lynn & Keith Charpentier.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mayes Dubose, Laurin Lee, and the staff of NHC Healthcare of Sumter for their loving care of Mildred.
