Obituary

Sumter, SC .......................William Earl Cooley, age 67, beloved husband of 45 years to Maria Cherylyn Prudente Cooley, died on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Palmetto Health Tuomey.


Born in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Joseph Bauknight Cooley and Ruby Barrett Cooley. William, also known as Bill, was raised in Spartanburg and joined the United States Air Force after graduating from high school. While stationed in England, Bill met and married his loving wife Maria on August 15, 1971. He retired from the Air Force after over twenty years of service. He then went to work for Caterpillar in Sumter where he was employed for over sixteen years. Bill had an infectious personality and was known as a great leader and teacher of his peers. He was strong willed and tenacious in his fight against cancer, even to the point of continuing to work for a year after his diagnosis. Bill loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Michael Cooley and his wife
Melinda of Indiana; two daughters, Tracey Kevelighan and her husband Kevin of Michigan and Alexandria Reynolds and her husband Justin of Virginia; two sisters, Joanne Naegele and Nancy Dillard both of Texas; six grandchildren, Brenden, Ryan, Bridget, Sabrina, Jacob and Lily and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Cooley.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 12:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 14, 2017, from 5-7 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
