Carolyn Kuehn Ward, age 99, beloved wife of the late Benjamin William Ward, Jr., died on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 peacefully in her sleep.
She was born in Seagate Coney Island, New York, and grew up in Columbus, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late William Earnest and Caroline Unglaube. She married Ben in 1938 and they moved to Sumter in 1952, when Ben began employment with the Early & Daniel Company.
Carolyn was an active member of the Church of the Holy Comforter as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks Club in Sumter. She will always be remembered for her love of family, spirited card games with friends, dancing at the Elks Club, and never missing a good party.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Conly Furman Smith Jr.; her grandson Conly Furman Smith III, his wife Janelle, and their children Conly and Natalie; her granddaughter, Linda Smith Tindal, her husband Henry, and their children Greyson and Molly.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Linda Jane Ward and Susan Ward Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Church of the Holy Comforter with the Reverend Marcus Adam Kaiser Sr. A private interment will follow the ceremony.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm at the home of her son-in-law, Furman Smith.
Memorials may be made to the Church of the Holy Comforter, 213 North Main Street, Sumter, SC 29150 or to NHC Healthcare, 1018 North Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.
