Obituary

John Henry "Nick" Nix, age 82, beloved husband of Margaret Ann Gray Nix, died on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at McElveen Manor, Sumter, SC.

Born in Woodruff, SC, he was the son of the late Ernest Nix and Mary Navy Kelly. Nick led a rich and full life. After marrying the love of his life, Margie, he joined the US Air Force as a Jet Aircraft Maintainer and their adventure began. Nick's career took the family overseas as well as all over the States. Being constantly on standby for deployment, he spent many tours away from his family, including deployments in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the US Air Force in 1978, he started a second career with the Biloxi Public School System, in charge of the bus fleet maintenance and safety.

A very sociable man who would give you the shirt off his back, Nick never met a stranger. Along with his grieving family, he leaves behind many good friends that he met along the way.

Surviving in addition to his wife are: two children, John F. Nix and his wife Tanya of Biloxi, MS and Toni Mullen and her husband Mark of Sumter; one sister, Mildred Mathews of Clinton, SC; three grandchildren, Katie Dellinger and her husband Steven, Chris Uchello and Michael Gray; one great grandchild, Reagan Dellinger, one niece, Vanda Wade and her husband Roger and three nephews, Darryl, Jackie and Dennis.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Joann Uchello and one brother, Frank Kelly.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 11: 00 am in the Biloxi National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd, Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.
